Give Local on #GivingTuesday!
Posted on November 29 2016
We’re pretty big believers in giving back to the community and each year I donate 10% of our profits (as well as 10% of my own salary) to organizations working to make the world a better place. The holiday season is in full swing and today, we’d love to take a minute to highlight just a few local organizations worthy of your #givingtuesday dollars and your volunteer time:
Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resource Center
The CRC serves as a hub of charitable and social work in our local community, feeding our neighbors through a food pantry, helping local seniors with transportation and social activities, and connecting families with the services they need. Any donation to the CRC is in good hands, going right back out to help those that need it most in our community. Tis the season to remember those less fortunate and give what we can back to those that just need a little help right now.
The Womens Fund of Central Ohio
This fantastic organization raises money throughout the year and distributes it through annual grants to local agencies and programs serving women and girls in Central Ohio. Their research helps us understand the obstacles that women and girls specifically face in our local area and the work of their supported programs addresses those challenges. For Giving Tuesday, any new or increased donation to the Womens Fund will be matched by local company, Compton Construction. So give today and double your impact!
As the mom of a special needs child, I definitely understand the isolation that families can feel because of their differences. Fluttering Families does the important work of connecting special needs families and providing spaces where kids and their families can experience rituals like visits with Santa and Easter Egg hunts in their own special way, apart from any judgment or pressure to conform to a typical experience. Fluttering Families is embarking on a huge quest right now to find a permanent home and space for the organization and the families it serves. Please consider grounding them in one location for many years to come!
Women Have Options
Volunteering with Women Have Options and other abortion funds helped me recognize the impact that any small donation of time or money can have. The funds raised by WHO/O allow Ohio women to access their reproductive choices when they otherwise could not afford them. We're living in a time when the legal right to abortion (and eventually birth control if we continue down that path) is in danger, but even that legal right is meaningless today to a woman that can not afford to access it. WHO/O is grassroots organizing at its best, and a monthly donation of $5-$10 can change the course of a local woman’s life forever. A give to WHO/O today or in the form of a monthly donation goes a long way!
